In the summer of 2018, Nhu embarked on her first hand-throwing ceramics course, seeking a respite from her academic pursuits. Little did she know, this hobby would evolve into a remarkable journey, connecting her with skilled artisans and enthusiastic ceramic lovers. Despite being a master’s student in health administration, Nhu dedicates her spare time to the potter’s wheel, crafting functional ceramics adorned with playful hand-painted designs rooted in her background as a painter. Each piece is meticulously thrown, trimmed, painted, and glazed in Montreal, Quebec, transforming everyday routines into moments of delight. With whimsical touches like capybaras sporting oranges on their heads or delicately painted fruits, Nhu’s creations aim to infuse joy into daily routines, reminding us that life doesn’t always have to be serious. Ecstatic to showcase her work outside of Montreal for the first time, Nhu hopes to inspire other first-generation immigrants to overcome the stigma surrounding artistic pursuits and unleash their creativity to the world!
